Art 2D Comprehensive 1

This course provides a basics understanding of artistic expression of ideas through drawing, painting and printmaking. The focus is on developing creative aspects of ideas through 2-D media. This is a foundation course for visual arts.
Drawing 1
Grade: 9-12 Length: 1 Semester

This is an introductory course to the understanding of drawing through the study of historical drawings of different cultures. Students will produce drawings of specific intent using different techniques stressing observational drawings, while working with diversified media.
Drawing 2
Grade: 10-12 Length: 1 Semester
Prerequisite: Drawing 1

This is a second level of understanding of drawing through a continuation of skills learned in Drawing 1. Students will be exposed to a variety of media and tools to produce more sophisticated and diversified assignments.

This is a third level drawing course with emphasis on refinement of observation and ways of expressing visual relationships. Students will demonstrate an experimental approach to new and traditional techniques. Emphasis is on the development of a portfolio.
Painting 1

This is an introductory course which will give students an aesthetic foundation for painting. Students will explore a variety of techniques in experimental and traditional ways.
Painting 2
Grade: 10-12 Length: 1 Semester

This is a second level course to enhance Painting I. Students will produce paintings which exhibit skills and show ability to communicate expressive concepts.
Q Painting 3

This course provides an advanced understanding of painting styles, techniques, and media. Students will be introduced to techniques of presentation and will develop a portfolio.

Art 3D Comprehensive 1
Grade: 9-12 Length: 1 Semester

The purpose of this course is to give students a basic understanding of three dimensional art methods, media, techniques, and craftsmanship through the use of basic design concepts. Students will produce sculpture and 3-D works as an expression of the individual’s imagination. Historical and contemporary sources for ideas will be studied.
Ceramics/Pottery 1
Grade: 9-12 Length: 1 Semester
Prerequisite: Art 3D

The purpose of this beginning course is to give students a basic understanding of ceramic processes. Students will develop basic skills in hand building and glaze application.
Ceramics/Pottery 2
Grade: 10-12 Length: 1 Semester
Prerequisite: Ceramics/Pottery 1

The purpose of this intermediate course is for students to further explore ceramic processes and to develop an understanding of the function of ceramics in our society and others. Students will develop technical skills required in the production of both functional and non functional works of art in clay.

The purpose of this advanced course is for students to make personal visual statements in clay through the efficient use of skills in clay construction and surface decoration. Students will learn about the preparation of clay bodies and formulation of glazes. Students will study kiln construction and firing techniques. Emphasis is on the development of a portfolio.

students to use digital technology to
create works of art that reflect
knowledge of the elements of art and
principles of design. The content
includes: use of equipment, tools,
materials, digital media, processes,
techniques, legal/ethical responsibilities
and protocol, and career opportunities.
There is a suggested donation for each art course.

Q AP Art/Drawing Portfolio

Prerequisite: Instructor Approval 1 Credit
This purpose of this course is to give advanced students the opportunity to develop quality, concentration, discipline, and breadth in drawing. Course includes district developed requirements that demonstrate studetns’ mastery of rigorous standards required of quality point art courses. This course following the course outline and covers content specified by the College Board – AP Central. Students are required to take the first semester exam and submit a portfolio by the due date.
