Introduction to Drama The purpose of this course is to introduce students to the study and practice of the dramatic arts. History, tradition, literature, and theatre operations are discussed. . Pantomim, monologues and beginning acting are the focus. Drama 1 The purpose of this course is to provide experiences in the study and practice of theatre arts and literature. Students are introduced to the fundamentals of acting in monologues and scenes, the critique process on their work and the work of others, and theatre productions. Drama 2 This course develops skills useful in the study and practice of theatre arts. Emphasis is placed on reading and interpreting literature, analyzing and portraying character, directing and stagecraft skills. Students analyze literary and dramatic qualities of plays and evaluate theatrical performances. Drama 3 This course improves skills useful in the study and practice of theatre arts. Emphasis is placed on acting techniques, production techniques, theories of acting and stagecraft, and major trends in theatrical design. Q Drama 4 This course provides advanced study in various aspects of dramatic and theatrical arts. Emphasis is placed on applying stage craft skills, using theatrical management skills, and demonstrating acting skills appropriate to a specific play or dramatic character. Students explore career opportunities related to drama and critique theatrical productions |
Stagecraft 1 This course introduces students to the fundamentals of technical theater. Emphasis is placed on scenery construction, costuming, makeup, lighting, sound, set design and properties. Stagecraft 2 This course provides students with practical experiences in stagecraft procedures. Emphasis is placed on studying the use of scenery, construction and set design. Also included are methods and procedures in using sound, lighting, costuming, properties, and makeup in the theatrical productions. Stagecraft 3 This course provides opportunities for experienced technical theatre students to expand their knowledge and to participate in theatrical events from a technical aspect. Emphasis is placed on the design and construction of scenery, sound, lighting, properties, makeup, costumes, and various technical theories. Q Stagecraft 4 This course provides study and participation in dramatic productions and projects for experienced students in technical theatre. Areas of study include special uses of design and the construction of scenery, sound, lighting, properties, makeup and costumes in producing dramatic projects. Emphasis is also given to expanded knowledge of various technical theories. |
Improvisation This course provides drama students with an opportunity to develop an awareness and recognition of the interaction of various theater fundamentals. Emphasis is placed on the student’s knowledge of acting, character studies, acting techniques and improvisational acting. Q Comprehensive Theatre 3 This course provides drama students an opportunity to demonstrate the interaction of theatre fundamentals in applicable media. Emphasis is placed on directing, vocal techniques, movement, theory, production, management, and script writing. This course provides drama students an opportunity to synthesize and interpret integrated theatre fundamentals. Emphasis is placed on directing, vocal techniques, movement, theory, production, management, and script writing. Musical Theatre 1-3 The purpose of this course is to provide opportunities to study and perform scenes from varied styles of musical theatre. Special attention will be given to the fundamentals of stage movement, acting, and characterization as related to musical production, as well as introductory sight singing and music theory. |
