English 3 This course will focus on the study of literature, language, and composition. Emphasis is placed on developing an understanding of major authors, periods, features, and themes of American Literature and on using the writing process to produce specified types of papers including literary analysis, persuasive essays, and a brief research paper. Speaking and listening skills, vocabulary development, study skills, and reference skills are also included English 4 This course focuses on the study of literature, language, and composition. Emphasis is placed on developing an understanding of the major authors and periods of British Literature. The course also focuses on using the writing process to produce specified types of papers, including literary analysis, persuasive essays, and a research paper. Speaking and listening skills, vocabulary development, reference and study skills, and the history of the English language are also included. Q AP
English Language and Composition This course focuses on an advanced study of non-fiction, primarily, although several classic works of American literature are included. Reading challenging prose texts from the sixteenth to the twenty-first centuries and writing about them, polishing prose analysis techniques, writing in several rhetorical modes , and honing vocabulary skills comprise the course. Students are required to take the Advanced Placement Exam. The course can be substituted for the English III requirement. Summer work is required.
