Drivers Ed Class/Lab This course introduces students to the highway transportation system and to strategies which will develop driving knowledge and skills related to today’s and tomorrow’s motorized society, and provide an in-depth study of the scope and nature of accident problems and their solutions. Laboratory instruction in simulators,dual controlled vehicles under the direction of an instructor and an off street multiple vehicle driving ranges where available. Note: Drivers License Exam and D.A.T.E. Training are given in the class. State Road Test Waivers are also given at the completion of course. Students who do not have their restricted license the first day of class will be given the D.A.T.E. course required by the D.M.V. at no additional charge during the first few days of class. Students must then secure restricted licensed using the waiver issued by the driver education teacher. Students who do not acquire a license during the first week of class will be dropped from the course. |

Health Opportunities through
Physical Education (HOPE) The purpose of this course is to develop and enhance healthy behaviors that influence lifestyle choices and student health and fitness. Students will alternate between learning principals and background information in a classroom setting and applying that knowledge during physically activity. All students are required to complete the Fitnessgram Pre-test and Post-test. Q Advanced Health Explorations The purpose of this course is for students
to investigate adolescent health problems and apply health related research practices. Experiences include discussions about the major health problems in society, modern health practices, current scientific findings related to human diseases and disorders, collection, analysis and evaluation of health
information, health advocacy trends, and
health career investigations. |

Basketball 1 & 2 The purpose of this course is to provide students with opportunities to acquire knowledge of strategies of basketball play and to develop skills in the sport. The content should include knowledge and Grad applications of skills, techniques, strategies, rules, and safety practices. Scoring and drills will also be covered. Strategies of play, skill acquisition, and the maintenance and/or improvement of personal fitness should be stressed. All students are required to complete the Fitnessgram Pre-test and Post-test. Flag Football The purpose of the course is to provide students with opportunities to acquire knowledge and applications of skills, techniques, rules, and safety of flag football. Strategies of play, skill acquisition, and the maintenance and/or improvement of personal fitness should be stressed. All students are required to complete the Fitnessgram Pre-test and Post-test. Individual & Dual Sports 1 The purpose of this course is to provide students with opportunities to acquire knowledge of strategies and develop skills in selected individual and dual sports, and maintain or improve their personal fitness. The content includes knowledge and application of skills, techniques, strategies, rules, and safety practices necessary to participate in selected individual and dual sports. Activities may include aerobics, badminton, tennis, weight training, and conditioning, four square, tether ball, frisbee activities, and hacky-sack. All students are required to complete the Fitnessgram Pre-test and Post-test. Individual & Dual Sports 2 The purpose of this course is to provide students with opportunities to acquire knowledge of strategies and develop skills in selected individual and dual sports, and maintain or improve their personal fitness. The content includes knowledge and application of skills, techniques, strategies, rules, and safety participate in selected individual and dual sports. All students are required to complete the Fitnessgram Pre-test and Post-test. Power Walking This course involves students in developing and implementing walking routines to improve their fitness. Students will walk to improve their muscle tone and cardiovascular fitness. All students are required to complete the Fitnessgram Pre-test and Post-test. Team Sports 1 This course provides students with opportunities to acquire knowledge of strategies of team sports play, develop skills in selected team sports, and maintain and/or improve their personal fitness. The content should include, but not be limited to, knowledge and application of skills, techniques, strategies, rules, and safety practices necessary to participate in selected team sports. Team sports selected may include, but not be limited to, basketball, flag football, gatorball, soccer, softball, speedball, and volleyball. Activities selected in Team Sports 1 shall not be repeated in Team Sports 2. Strategies of team sports play, skill, acquisition, and maintenance and/or improvement of personal fitness should be stressed. All students are required to complete the Fitnessgram Pre-test and Post-test. Team Sports 2 The purpose of this course is to provide students with opportunities to acquire knowledge of strategies of team sports play, develop skills in selected team sports, and maintain and/or improve their personal fitness. The content should include, but not be limited to, knowledge and application of skills, techniques, strategies, rules, and safety practices necessary to participate in selected team sports. Team sports selected may include, but not be limited to, basketball, flag football, gatorball, soccer, softball, speedball, and volleyball. Activities selected in Team Sports 1 shall not be repeated in Team Sports 2. Soccer This course provides students with opportunities to acquire knowledge and skills in soccer for use in recreational pursuits and maintain and/or improve their personal fitness. The course expands and refines concepts and activities that were introduced in elementary and middle school. The content should include, but not to be limited to, in depth knowledge and application of skills, techniques, strategies, rules and safety practices necessary to participate in soccer, and knowledge of the organization in administration of soccer games. Strategies of team play, skill acquisition, and the maintenance and/or improvement of personal fitness should be stressed. All students are required to complete the Fitnessgram Pre-test and Post-test. Volleyball - Beginning The purpose of this course is to provide students with opportunities to acquire knowledge and skills in volleyball that may be used in recreation pursuits today as well as later in life, and maintain and/or improve their personal fitness. The content should include, but not limited to, in depth knowledge and application of skills, techniques, strategies, rules, and safety practices necessary to participate in volleyball, and knowledge of the organization and administration of volleyball activities. Strategies of team play, skill acquisition, and personal fitness should be stressed. All students are required to complete the Fitnessgram Pre-test and Post-test. Volleyball- Intermediate & Advanced The purpose of this course is to provide students with opportunities to extend the acquisition of knowledge and the development of skills introduced in Beginning Volleyball that may be used in recreational pursuits today as well as later in life and maintain and/or improve their sports, and maintain or improve their personal fitness. The content will be increasing those strategies, techniques, skills, and knowledge learned in Beginning Volleyball. All students are required to complete the Fitnessgram Pre-test and Post-test Weight Training - Beginning The purpose of this course is to provide students with opportunities to acquire basic knowledge and skills in weight training, improve muscular strength and endurance, and enhance body image. The content may include, knowledge of the importance of muscular strength and endurance, assessment of muscular strength, knowledge of health problems associated with inadequate levels of muscular strength and endurance, knowledge of skeletal muscles, and biomechanical and physiological principles knowledge of safety practices related to weight training, and knowledge of consumer issues related to weight training. All students are required to complete the Fitnessgram Pre-test and Post-test. Weight Training - Intermediate The purpose of this course is to provide students with opportunities to extend the acquisition of knowledge and the development of skills in weight training that may be used in physical fitness pursuits today as well as in later life, further improve muscular strength and endurance, and further enhance body image. The content should include, but not be limited to, reinforcement of basic weight training knowledge. Knowledge of safety practices, expansion of weight training programs by incorporating new exercises, increasing resistance, and modifying the number of sets and repetitions, knowledge of various weight training theories, knowledge of various equipment available in the field to develop muscular strength and endurance, and knowledge of designing, implementing and evaluating a personal weight training program. All students are required to complete the Fitnessgram Pre-test and Post-test. Weight Training- Advanced The purpose of this course is to provide students with opportunities to extend the acquisition of knowledge and the development of skills introduced in Intermediate Weight Training to further improve muscular strength and endurance, and enhance body image. All students are required to complete the Fitnessgram Pre-test and Post-test. |
