PRE-IB ELECTIVE CHOICES

All courses are one year in length

ART 2D

Provides a basic understanding of artistic expression of ideas through drawing, painting and printmaking.

 

ART 3D

Provides a basic understanding of three dimensional art methods, media, techniques, and craftsmanship through the use of basic design concepts.

 

CHORUS I

This course will include fundamental skills in vocal tone production, choral performance techniques, musical literacy and music appreciation.

 

COMPUTING FOR COLLEGE & CAREERS

This course provides a basic overview of current business and information systems and trends.  Introduces students to the basic skills required for today’s educational and business environments.

 

INTRO TO COMPUTER PROGRAMMING

Students will learn how to prepare computer programs using Scratch, Squeak, Alice and Karel J Robot.  Successful completion of this class enables students to take AP Computer Science.

 

DEBATE I

This course will develop debate skills through the study of fundamental concepts of argumentation and presentation of informative, persuasive and argumentative speeches. 

 

DRAMA I

Students are introduced to the fundamentals of acting in monologues and scenes, the critique process of their work and the work of others. 

 

GUITAR –must provide own guitar

Students will develop the ability to perform chords and melodies using correct hand position, play chords and melodies in selected keys and sight-read music.

 

KEYBOARD

This course will provide students with experiences on the keyboard in performance skills and interpretation of notation.

 

BAND I – May require mandatory after-school rehearsals & performances

This course will provide students with the opportunity to develop technical skills in an ensemble setting.
