Biology 1
Grade level: 10-12 Length: 1 Year
Prerequisite: None - 1 Credit

A survey and explanatory course providing students with experiences and activities in life’s fundamental concepts. Topics such as cell biology, cell reproduction, classification, taxonomy, structure and function of plants and animals, and ecological relationships are included.

Q Biology 1 Honors
Grade level: 9-10 Length: 1 Year
Prerequisite: Reading Stanine of 7 or taking Geom concurrently - 1 Credit

This course provides students with advanced exploratory experiences and activities in the fundamental concepts of life. Topics discussed are biochemistry, microorganisms and disease, genetic, biological changes through time, and human anatomy and physiology.

Q Biology 2 Honors
Grade Level: 11-12 Length: 1 Year
Prerequisite: Biology 1 - 1 Credit

This course will expand the study of the biological concepts introduced in the first year biology course, and will introduce new and more advanced topics. Topics such as population dynamics, properties of life, species continuity, cellular metabolism, and animal and plant physiology are included.

Q AP Biology
Grade level: 11-12 Length: 1 Year
Prerequisite: Bio & Chem. - 1 Credit

The purpose of this course is to provide a college level course in biology, and to prepare the student to seek credit and/or appropriate placement in a college biology course. Students are required to take the Advanced Placement Examination and the first semester final exam.

Q Anatomy and Physiology Honors
Grade level: 11-12 Length: 1 Year
Prerequisite: Bio 1 & Chem. 1 (Previous or Concurrent) - 1 Credit

This course will provide students with an advanced introduction to the structure and function of the components of the human body. Topics such as cellular processes, the cardiovascular, respiratory, urinary and reproductive systems, and the senses areincluded. Dissection specimens include sheep and cow organs, and the choice of a cat or fetal pig. There is also and opportunity to observe surgery for some students. Success requires reading comprehension at or above grade level, good study habits, good attendance, and willingness to study on a regular basis.


Chemistry 1
Grade Level: 10-12 Length: 1 Year
Prerequisite: Algebra 1 - 1 Credit

This course will provide students with the study of the composition, properties, and changes associated with matter. Topics such as atomic theory, periodic table, bonding, chemical formulas, behavior of gases, and chemical reactions are included. This course does not prepare the student for college level chemistry.

Q Chemistry 1 Honors
Grade Level: 10-12 Length: 1 Year
Prerequisite: Geometry - 1 Credit

This course will provide students with a rigorous study of the composition, properties, and changes associated with matter. Topics include heat, atomic structure, mole concept, reaction rates, and equilibrium, solutions, and electrochemistry.

Q AP Chemistry
Grade level: 11-12 Length: 1 Year
Prerequisite: Bio & Chem.
1 Credit

The purpose of this course is to provide a college level course in chemistry, and to prepare the student to seek credit and/or appropriate placement in a college chemistry course. Students are required to take the Advanced Placement Examination and the first semester final exam.

Ecology
Grade Level: 10-12 Length: 1 Year
Prerequisite: Biology - 1 Credit

This course provides students with a study of the natural mutual relationships between organisms, and other factors comprising their environment. Topics include food chains and webs, energy relationships, endangered species, pollution and recycling.

Marine Science
Grade Level: 10-12 Length: 1 Year
Prerequisite: Biology - 1 Credit

This course provides the student with a survey of the marine bio. Included are concepts relating to the chemical, physical, and geological nature of the oceans, as well as those relating to marine flora and fauna.

Earth/Space Science
Grade Level: 9-12 Length: 1 Year
Prerequisite: None - 1 Credit

The purpose of this course is to provide opportunities for the students to develop concepts basic to the earth, including its materials, processes, history, and environment in space. Topics such as the origin of the universe and solar system, life cycles of stars, formation of rocks, land forms, plate tectonics, glaciers, meteorology, and geologic periods are included.

Physical Science
Grade: 10-12 Length: 1 year
Prerequisite: None - 1 Credit

This course provides students with a qualitative, investigative study of the introductory concepts of physics and chemistry. Topics include dynamics, periodic table, forms of energy, electricity and magnetism and chemical interactions.

Q AP Environmental Science
Grade Level: 11-12 Length: 1 Year
Prerequisite: Bio & Chem. - 1 Credit

The purpose of this course is to provide a college level course in environmental science, and to prepare the student to seek credit and/or appropriate placement in college/biology courses. Students are required to take the AP Environmental Science Examination and the first semester final exam.

Physics 1
Grade level: 10-12 Length: 1 Year Prerequisite: Algebra 1 - 1 Credit

This course will provide students with an introductory study of the theories and laws governing the interaction of matter, energy, and the forces of nature. Topics such as kinematics, dynamics, work and power, thermodynamics, wave characteristics and magnetism are included. This course does not prepare the student for college level physics.

Q Physics 1 Honors
Grade Level: 10-12 Length: 1 Year Prerequisite: Algebra 2 -1 Credit

This course will provide students with a rigorous introductory study of the theories and laws governing the interaction of matter, energy and the forces of nature. Topics included energy, heat, light, electricity, and nuclear physics.
