Classroom Expectations Exhibit Positive and Effective Behavior in Class and on Stage.

Refrain from gum-chewing, disruptive talking, and other negative behaviors Contributions: 1. Work on the development of proper vocal skills 2. Participate with a positive attitude 3. Take initiative in all class activities Consequences for students who choose negative behaviors: Step 1. Verbal warning in class Step 2. Teacher administrated detention Step 3. Conference with Mr. Lawhead and detention, phone call to parents Step 4. Written referral to principal Some behaviors warrant skipping right to Step 4 Harassment: 1. Music is internationally understood as an art form that brings people of diverse backgrounds and opinions together. 2. Harassment in the choral program is unacceptable. We expect the student to do their best to resolve simple disagreements on their own. 3. Serious issues that remain unresolved should be addressed with Mr. Lawhead. Choir Folders and Music: 1. Each member will have a choir folder. 2. Students will be issued music throughout the year. This music should be kept in your folder and be with you in class each day. You will be charged replacement cost for any lost or damaged music. 3. The student will be assigned an unsecured slot in the choir room for folder storage.

Grading Policy

Participation - 50% Performances - 50% Participation Rehearsal attendance - Students will receive up to 5 points for each scheduled rehearsal they attend. Points will be awarded based on the following rubric. 5 points Participates fully and attentively during warm-ups, involved actively in rehearsal consistently, displays correct posture at all times while singing 4 points Participates in warm-ups with minor attention lapses, involved in rehearsal but with minor attention lapses, displays correct posture most of the time 3 points Participation in warm-ups is casual, involved in rehearsal but frequently distracted, displays correct posture inconsistently 2 points Fails to take warm-ups seriously, casually involved in rehearsal with many distractions, corrects posture after warnings from director 1 points Infrequently participates in warm-ups, infrequently involved in rehearsal, infrequently displays correct posture 0 points No participation in warm-ups, no involvement in rehearsal, no correct posture displayed
Performances Performance attendance - students will receive up to 100 points per performance providing they arrive at the appointed time and remain until the completion of the performance. Absences In order for an absence to be excused, the student must have prior approval from the director. Excused absences will be granted in extreme circumstances.

Concert Attire |
All members will be fitted for a performance outfit to be worn only at SPH Choral Concerts. The ladies will have a long formal dress, either green or black. The men will wear a formal tuxedo. The tux outfit should consist of a white tux shirt, black bow tie, vest, coat and the tux pants. All of this will be checked out to the student and the student should return the items dry cleaned. Any student who fails to return their complete outfit at the end of the year will assessed a fee of $40.00. The outfit will be dry cleaned once in the fall. Shoes are not provided. Ladies should wear a dressy black pump with a fairly small heel. The gentlemen should wear black dress shoes. We will have a casual outfir for casual settings which consists of a collared polo shirt with dark pants (no jeans) and dark shoes. The polo shirts are $15.00 and we will order the shirts this fall. |
