Section 1. The name of this organization is the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica, also known as the Spanish National Honor Society, hereby referred to as “the Society.”
Section 2. The purpose of the Society is to recognize students’ high achievement in Spanish and to promote continuity in the studies of the Spanish language and interest in the Hispanic culture.
Section 3. The Society is classified as a national and international academic honor society in the study of high school Spanish and is sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese, Inc. (AATSP)
Section 4. The name of our chapter is Sancho Panza.
Section 1. Meetings are held the second Tuesday of the month in the Little Theater, unless otherwise specified. Meetings are from 1:20 to 2:00. Meetings will begin promptly at 1:20. Doors will be locked at 1:25.
Section 2. If you are tardy or leave early, your attendance will NOT count. Signatures will only be given at the end of the meeting.
Section 3. Meetings will be conducted in an orderly manner. No cell phones, electronic devices or side bars. Please be respectful of your officers; listen attentively.
Section 1. Student must be enrolled in a Spanish class at the time of initiation. Membership is open to sophomores and juniors in Spanish levels III and above. No initiation is to take place earlier than the tenth grade.
Section 2. Student must have a cumulative 3.5 GPA in high school Spanish classes, and an overall unweighted 3.5 GPA.
Section 3. Student must be recommended for membership by his/her current Spanish teacher. Character, leadership, seriousness of purpose, cooperation, honesty, service and commitment to others are part of the criteria for selection into the Society.
Section 4. Student must have a keen interest in the Spanish language and the Hispanic culture, as demonstrated by participation in the Spanish Club and other activities promoted by the World Languages Department.
Section 5. Student must sign a Commitment Letter stating his/her intent to continue studying Spanish throughout high school.
Section 6. If a member does not continue the study of Spanish, the student may remain in the Society as an Associate Member until graduation at the discretion of the Chapter Sponsor.
Section 7. Associate Members may enjoy limited privileges and benefits in the Society. They may not vote, hold office, or be eligible to receive scholarship or travel awards of the Society.
Section 8. The student must pay the applicable national and local membership fees before initiation. Upon initiation, each student member will receive a Certificate of Membership.
Section 9. A member may be removed from the Chapter at the discretion of the Chapter Sponsor for failure to maintain an honor average, misconduct, insubordination, lack of participation or other serious infraction.
Section 10. Honorary Membership may be granted to a person in the school or community who has demonstrated an interest in the promotion and advancement of the purposes of the Society. Each Honorary Member shall receive a Certificate of Membership.
Section 1. Officers shall be elected during the first grading period of the school year. Students interested in running for office must be in good standing with the Chapter and must have the endorsement of the Chapter Sponsor.
Section 2. Voting shall be conducted using a Ballot. The Club Sponsor and another school official shall supervise the counting of the votes.
Section 3. Officer positions are: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and Historian. All positions are for a one year period, unless there are grounds for dismissal. Officers dismissed from their position will not be able to apply for future officers’ positions.
Section 4. Officers must be enrolled in a Spanish class.
Section 5. Students running for office shall preferably NOT be officers of other school clubs in order to avoid time conflicts.
Section 6. The President shall preferably be a senior who has already served in another officer position in previous years.
Section 7. In the event of a vacancy in the office of President during his or her term of office, then the Vice President shall succeed to the office of President for the unexpired term of his or her predecessor in office.
Section 1. Officers are expected to attend all officers and monthly meetings. Officers who plan to miss a meeting due to an approved reason, must notify the Club Sponsor at least two days in advance of the meeting. Absences due to illness must be notified to the Club Sponsor upon return to school.
Section 2. Officers are expected to demonstrate their leadership by participating in all activities and projects sponsored by the Society.
Section 3. The President must be a strong and enthusiastic leader who can rally the troops into action. The President works closely with the Club Sponsor to keep things organized and running smoothly. The President must have good command of the Spanish language (pronunciation/intonation), be extremely organized, self-motivated, and have strong interpersonal skills.

Section 5. This Vice President works closely with the President and helps with all projects. The Vice President will take the place of the President in the event that person can no longer carry out their duties. The Vice President must be organized, self-motivated and have strong interpersonal skills. The Vice President conducts part of the induction ceremony along with the other officers and must have good command of the Spanish language.

Section 7. The Secretary is responsible for the documentation of all the club meetings and activities. The Secretary must have experience taking notes, typing, and have excellent record keeping skills. Web page design or maintenance is a plus! The Secretary works closely with the Club Sponsor.

Section 9. The Treasurer is responsible for all financial records of the club. The Treasurer works closely with the Club Sponsor and other club officers. The Secretary must be good with numbers, preferably have some bookkeeping/record keeping experience and be extremely organized.

Section 11. The Historian documents all club activities throughout the year and oversee the submission of documents for publication. The Historian must be creative, enjoy writing, taking pictures and scrapbooking. The Historian works closely with the Club Sponsor and other club officers.

Section 1. Members must maintain an overall 3.5 GPA. Students who do not meet the GPA requirement will be placed on probation. Two semesters with a low GPA is grounds for dismissal from SHH.
Section 2. Annual dues must be paid by the October meeting. Members who do not pay their mandatory dues will be placed on probation and exempted from participation until the dues are paid. Please take note that once your mandatory chapter dues have been paid, if you are dismissed from membership, your dues are non-refundable.
Section 3. Members who miss attendance to two monthly meetings will be placed on probation.
Section 4. Lack of participation in club service projects is grounds for probation.
Section 5. A combination of one missed meeting plus one missed club project is grounds for probation.
Section 6. Members who do not keep their commitment to assigned club activities are subject to probation.
Section 7. Members are expected to be role models and strictly adhere to all of SPHS rules AND dress code. Referrals may result in dismissal.
Section 8. Members who miss three monthly meetings will be dismissed from membership to the Society.
Section 9. Associate members who do not attend the monthly meetings and/or do not participate in the club activities will be dismissed from membership to the Society.
Section 10. Officers who fail to fulfill their duties and responsibilities will be dismissed from office and not be allowed to run for office in the future.
