SOCIEDAD HONORARIA HISPÁNICA
CAPÍTULO SANCHO PANZA
GENERAL EXPECTATIONS FOR ALL OFFICERS:

  1. All club officers must be taking a Spanish class.
  2. Club officers cannot be officers of other school clubs due to time conflicts.
  3. All positions are for one year; members that fail to fulfill their officer responsibilities will not be considered for future officer positions.
  4. If you encounter any problem performing your duties, you are expected to inform the sponsor immediately.
  5. All club officers are expected to be available to participate in the Spanish State Conference in Orlando in April.
  6. All officers are expected to attend all officer and club monthly meetings.
  7. Officers who plan to miss a meeting due to an approved reason, must inform the sponsor two days in advance. Absences due to illness need to be advised to sponsor upon return to school.

PRESIDENT:

The President must be a strong and enthusiastic leader who can rally the troops into action. The President works closely with the sponsor to keep things organized and running smoothly. Candidates must have good command of the Spanish language (pronunciation/intonation), be extremely organized, self-motivated, and have strong interpersonal skills. Specific duties include:

  1. Meet with the sponsor at the beginning of the year to prepare an intended-activities calendar.
  2. Plan and coordinate fund raising activities and community service projects with the respective Vice Presidents.
  3. Prepare a written agenda for the sponsor to review prior to each meeting.
  4. Encourages club members to submit applications for senior, travel and club scholarships and other awards.
  5. Organize rush week and induction ceremony. Conduct the induction ceremony along with the other officers.
  6. Organize the annual banquet.

 


VICE PRESIDENT: (Two positions available)
This person works closely with the President and helps with all projects. The Vice President will take the place of the President in the event that person can no longer carry out their duties. Candidates must be organized, self-motivated and have strong interpersonal skills. The Vice President conducts part of the induction ceremony along with the other officers and must have good command of the Spanish language.

Vice President of Fund Raising/School Activities:

  1. Plan and coordinate all fund raising activities with sponsoring community partners. Examples include, but are not limited to Publix (tagging), and Barnes and Noble Bookstore (gift wrapping), and Homecoming Rose Sale.
  2. Submit for approval “Activity Forms” 3 weeks prior to activity.
  3. Coordinate all the fund raising activities with the treasurer.
  4. Coordinate each activity with the club members to assure financial success.

 

Vice President of Service Projects:

  1. Works with the President to identify services SHH can provide to our community.
  2. Works with the President to identify SHH school activities.
  3. Plan and coordinate tutorial services.  Keep track of volunteer hours for all members.
  4. Prepare a monthly report with the volunteer hours for each member.  This report is typed and posted at each monthly meeting.

SECRETARY:
The Secretary is responsible for the documentation of all the club meetings and activities. Candidates must have experience taking notes, typing, and have excellent record keeping skills.  Web page design or maintenance is a plus! The Secretary works closely with the sponsor.

  1. Take roll at each meeting and send out probation warnings to any member who has missed more than two meetings.  The Secretary will recruit some members to form a sub-committee to assist with attendance during monthly meetings.
  2. Take minutes of all the meetings. Type minutes and present for sponsor’s approval. Post minutes in the club bulletin board. Read minutes or prior meetings at the beginning of each monthly meeting.
  3. Coordinate with the school’s web master (Collen Parker) to maintain the school’s SHH’s website. 
  4. Prepare the invitations and program for the induction ceremony (design and production)
  5. Deliver the translation at the induction ceremony.
  6. Coordinate banquet with the President. Prepare (design, production and delivery) of invitations.

 


TREASURER:
The Treasurer is responsible for all financial records of the club. The Treasurer works closely with the sponsor and other club officers. Candidates must be good with numbers, preferably have some bookkeeping/record keeping experience and be extremely organized.

  1. Set financial goals for the club and each member.
  2. Give brief financial report at the beginning of each club meeting.
  3. Prepare and maintain individual student account sheets.
  4. Post individual student accounts balances in the bulletin board on a monthly basis.
  5. Advise students whose accounts are below expected goal.
  6. Work with Vice President to prepare all “Activities Forms” on a timely basis.
  7. Maintains club accounting books. Balances account once a month.
  8. Prepare financial report for sponsor approval.
  9. Work with club sponsor to prepare all bookkeeping reports on a timely basis.

10. Collect and count all money collected during fund raising activities and prepare deposits for the bookkeeping department.


HISTORIANS: (Three positions available: bulletin board, scrapbook, publications)
The Historians document all club activities throughout the year and oversee the submission of documents for publication. Historians must be students who are creative, enjoy writing, taking pictures and scrapbooking. The Historians work closely with the club sponsor and other club officers.

 

  1. Take pictures throughout the year of all club activities, meetings and field trips.
  2. Prepare and maintain club bulletin board on a monthly basis.
  3. Prepare scrapbook for the Spanish State Conference.
  4. Encourage club members to submit articles for publication to the school newspaper, the Spanish Honor Society magazine (Albricias) and the Pinellas County World Languages Department newsletter (Polyglot).
  5. Submit all articles for publication within given deadlines. Secure publication deadlines from sponsors. Advise club members of deadlines.
  6. Post copies of published articles in club bulletin board.
  7. Works as a strong team member with the other Historians and all club officers.
